AC Transit 101

AC Transit runs more than 150 bus lines within the East Bay, San Francisco, and the Peninsula.

From San Pablo to Newark, in thirteen cities and unincorporated areas in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties with Transbay service to San Francisco and the Peninsula.

Clipper Card

Clipper regional fare card
Clipper is the Bay Area’s reloadable smart card and the best way to pay transit fares. Clipper is valid on all Bay Area transit and is reloadable online or through over 100 Bay Area retail locations.   • Passenger ramps/lifts for wheelchair/mobility device users, or anyone who has trouble climbing steps (passengers with strollers or carts may also request the use of ramps/lifts)
  • “Kneeling”, which lowers the first step several inches to make boarding easier (note: special “Flash Cards” are available upon request from AC Transit, which passengers can display prior to boarding, for requesting ramps/lifts or the kneeler)
  • Priority seating for persons with disabilities and seniors are marked with signs above or near the seats. You may ask the operator to remind non-disabled passengers to vacate a seat for you.
  • Two wheelchair securement areas are provided on each bus. Using the securement devices is required and the operator will assist you.
  • A no-cost, personalized wheelchair marking/tether strap program is also available for identifying proper securement points on wheelchairs, scooters and other mobility devices. Call (510) 891-7113 to schedule an appointment.
  • Stop announcements at major intersections and transfer points are provided either verbally by drivers or by automated equipment.
