The Learning Academy of Basketball

About Us

The LAB is a not-for-profit organization that aides teens in becoming successful leaders of their families, communities and the world by bringing adults and children from different backgrounds together in a cultural exchange. Through the sport of basketball and through sports-based educational sessions, it promotes a healthy lifestyle, mind, body and spirit through the discipline, dedication, and hard work needed to achieve success.

As its leaders know firsthand the positive impact basketball can have, The LAB was created to fulfill the desire to give back and connect cultures through sports. The organization's founders – Gregory Griffith (President) and Daniel Hilferty IV (Vice President) – have been students of the game of basketball for more than 20 years and have played, coached, mentored and trained young athletes at various levels of skill. Their relationship began as a player/coach at The University of Scranton in Pennsylvania.

Through The LAB, Griffith, Hilferty and their staff deliver the sport of basketball – via clinics and camps – and its ancillary teachings — starting first in Trinidad. The LAB enriches the lives of children worldwide by promoting sport, physical fitness and healthy living.
